Sylhet division is believed to have come under
Muslim rule with presence of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R) , a prominent priest of
ISLAM who came here from Yemen, a middle-east country. But a Mosque named
GAYEBI MOSJID (Spiritual Mosque) was discovered which was found to be of a time
even before. The mosque was discovered by two of three sons of one of the
companies of Hzt. Shah Jalal (Rh) named Syed Ummar Samarkhand and another
company Syed Usman Bogdady. The two sons Samarkhand, namely Syed Mahbub
Khandokar and Syed Tahir Khandokar along with Syed Usman Bogdady uncovered the
Mosque from underneath the surface of a hill (Tilla) there at Usmanpur (present
Usmanpur UP of Balaganj) while the three priests were trying to build up their
station for preaching. The foundation of the Mosque being unknown to them, it
was named as GAYEBI MOSJID, a mosque of unknown origin, and the adjacent area
was named USMANPUR after the name of the priest Usman Bogdady.
The location of the mosque is at Usmanpur Union. It is
adjacent to Tajpur-Balaganj road and within the territory of village Panchpara.
