Kean Bridge

Kean bridge is attractive and exceptional symbol for Sylhet. It’s out looking are little bit different than other bridges. When you enter sylhet town you must cross the river Surma. There are four bridges in river Surma to enter Sylhet. But Kean bridge is the oldest one   in the river Surma. Kean bridge  was started to build in British period in 1933 and open for public transport in 1936.The word “Kean” came from the Asam Ex-Governor Michel Kean. This is also known as surma bridge.
This Kean bridge   is complete iron based. It’s length is 1150 feet and width is 18 feet. It cost 5.6 million Taka on that time price value. You can enter sylhet city via three more bridges named Shahjalal bridge, Kazirbazar bridge & Tukerbazar Bridge. But it’s out looking is too different than others three bridges. It’s height is too high that’s why rickshaw puller rent labor to push his rickshaw at cost 5 tk.
